Scenic Colorado Engagement at Sunset

While photographed in Colorado by Holeigh V Photography during the Lemonade + Lenses workshop, I was struck by how much these images reminded me of certain landscapes and light throughout British Columbia, specifically in the interior where the mountains are less dramatic than the Rockies or Coast mountains, but also more conducive to longer sunsets and softer shadows.  Throughout the Okanagan Valley and the Shuswap there are some stunning overlooks that would work well for engagement sessions like this, especially during the spring and fall months when sunset times are a little earlier.  Best places to start looking: regional + provincial parks, wineries, orchards, and hiking trails.

Back to this shoot by Holeigh V  though...  I appreciate that a lookout like this offers opportunities for views below which provide soft backdrops at dusk and points of interest that can enhance the shoot with colour, texture, and context.  If a sky is hazy or overcast, images shot downwards towards a non-distracting background can distance the eye from a white sky.  And of course shooting at this angle is almost always flattering to one's subjects, the way it most certainly is here.
