Along with Spring comes the re-emergence of our favourite garden delights and, of course, the Canadian wedding season. We were transported to a rustic, whimsical floral wonderland in this editorial from Southern Ontario wedding planner Lindsay Plank Events.

Despite the pandemic, a venue change, and postponing twice, Alysia and Christopher were finally able to get married amongst a beautiful forest at Fernwood Hills with their absolute closest friends and family.

Elopements aren't for everyone, but they do offer something every couple can benefit from on their wedding day, and that's the aspect of paring things down so that the essence of a marriage, of a couple's love for one another, isn't lost amidst the details and drama on the big day.  Taking a cue from today's feature on Vale + Vine, I thought I'd share three things each couple can do while planning their wedding, that will help minimize distractions from what matters most....

This ultimate bohemian wedding for Brittany + Myles is both personal and packed with a blend of boho and eclectic details.  Made from scratch jam-filled jars for the guests, a macrame ceremony backdrop, woodland portraits of bridesmaids in flowing white and groomsmen who looked like they just stepped off an LP cover for a 70's classic rock band,...

...I love how Dan + Eliza's attire was perfectly suited to the countryside, the edge of town with a backdrop of bridge and buildings, and finally the more formal setting of a church ceremony.  Dan's brown dress shoes and olive bowtie paired with classic black suit made for a modern look based on traditional styling, and Eliza's tasteful scoop-neck with beaded bodice and low up-do is an elegant but relaxed style...

This editorial from photographer Keila Marie, designed by The Wells Makery with Ponderosa and Thyme florals, reminds us that a neutral colour palette doesn’t need to be traditional. The coastal tones on British Columbia’s Galiano Island pair perfectly with the modern textures of an oversized bouquet and a stunning Leanne Marshall gown.

This modern meets heirloom winter wedding in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley is a perfect blend of classic and contemporary elements that turn the eye without distracting the viewer from the romance.  Jael's vintage style gown shimmers against the backdrop of the snow-covered lake and mountains, while her bridesmaids' decidedly non-winter dresses  pop with rich, rustic hues and short hemlines,...

I'm always a fan of blending warm and cool tones, alongside a vision of soft pastels and vibrant hues, but only when it's done well.  The challenge is a risky business and the effect can wind up appearing more messy than magical, however when the right team is assembled and the vision is shared, executed, and documented in a cohesive manner, the result is both exciting and easy on the eyes....

Vancouver's Hycroft Manor is one of my favourite of the city's venues, not only because it boasts beautiful gardens, rich architecture and scores of naturally lit settings, but because it also offers well-lit historic interiors and a grand outdoor portico that offer ample protection from the elements...

In regions where the outdoor wedding season is shorter than others, and where the risk of inclement weather often persuades couples to opt for indoor ceremonies and receptions, it's both refreshing and inspiring to come across a wedding held entirely out of doors....

A backyard garden wedding typically brings to mind loose, homegrown floral arrangements and an intimate setting that encourages casual mingling and informal dining.  This pretty feature, however, kicks backyard weddings up a notch with lavish florals and a decadent tablescape...

While winery weddings in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley come in all sizes and styles, they all tend to have one thing in common - unbeatable views of the vineyard and orchard dotted surroundings, often with a gem of a lake sparkling in the distance....

This is one of the more luxurious autumnal bridal looks that has come across my desk this season, and I was really taken with the opulence and glamour featured here because it really doesn't detract from the beauty of the surroundings, the florals, or the overall aesthetic.

I know we're in the throes of fall, but this shoot is terribly refreshing to me.  The bright light of a summer's day, the gleaming waters of the Pacific Ocean, the rocky shores of Vancouver, (yes, you heard me right, Vancouver) how could one resist.  No overcast skies here, just sheer blue sky beauty captured on film by Brittany Mahood....

When this submission came across my desk I was a bit stunned to learn that it was shot in Saskatchewan.  Now I know the Canadian prairies are more than just flat farm land, (which posesses a beauty all of its own) but I actually hadn't heard of this specific region and was delighted to find that JL Photo and their clients, Steph + Nolan, sought it out as the backdrop to their engagement session....

I think it's easy to get caught up in the misconception of the perfect wedding and be overwhelmed by the plethora of styled shoots and destination weddings we see out there that just aren't attainable, or desired by every couple.  For some, the landscape that is most romantic, the backdrop that means the most, is one that might be found commonplace to others.  The point is to make it your own and embrace what is beautiful in your own eyes....
