French Countryside Anniversary Session

Whenever fine art film photographer Jenna Hill and her husband and filmmaker Jody Hill set out on their travels, I'm always curious to see what sort of scenic, light-filled imagery will be filtering through my Instagram and Facebook feeds.  As the Okanagan Valley's premiere film wedding photographer, Jenna has a special knack for drawing out natural beauty and genuine interactions from within her subjects without forcing a specific 'look' or contriving a scene...

Intimate Ontario Cornfield Wedding

Sophistication mixed with rural charm and a sunset to catch your breath--that's what an elegant, farmstead wedding is made of right?  Set on the edge of summer and the sweeping cornfields of the groom's family farm in Walkerton, Ontario, Lara + Ryan were married among just a handful of loved ones who obviously know how to celebrate with ease and affection....

Rural Ontario Elopement

Only weeks before their scheduled wedding date, Matt + Britney made the decision to elope with only their parents and attendants as guests at their wedding ceremony.  While an intimate wedding or elopement isn't for everyone, I can almost guarantee it crosses most couples' minds as an option when the stress of details and dynamics start to weigh heavy.  I believe there a unique feel and authenticity that come with both intimate gatherings and grand celebrations, but the two intimate Ontario weddings I recently had the pleasure of seeing in my inbox really drew me in....

Meadow Inspiration for the Modern Bride

If you've ever wondered what a modern day interpretation of Anne of Avonlea might look like, this styled collaborative shoot by Rebecca Yale Photography and Shellie Pomeroy of Silk + Willow is it (in my mind at least).  Set in New Paltz, New York, amidst meadows of clover and peaceful brooks, I could just imagine a grown up Anne Shirley spending an easy afternoon foraging for blooms and daydreaming in the Atlantic countryside, reciting The Lady of Shalott by the waters' edge, and  entertaining the likes of her kindred spirit, Diana, perpetual tease/eventual beau Gilbert Blythe, Matthew + Marilla, and Miss Stacy.  Raspberry cordial would, of course, be on the menu....

French Hamlet Honeymoon

Recently I had the opportunity to photograph good friends of mine on their one year anniversary in Rome.  If I could shoot more of these relaxed romantic sessions where there's nothing more to do but wander through cobbled alleys or sip a glass of wine, I'd be in heaven.  So when Adrian Photographers of the Okanagan submitted a honeymoon session featuring their wedding clients Jeanie + Scott, in the French hamlet of La Bastide d'Esparon, I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to encourage couples to book honeymoon or anniversary sessions wherever their travels take them....

Canadian Countryside Wedding at Pineridge Hollow

I'm celebrating my birthday today at Vale + Vine with a wedding that took place on the outskirts of the rural Manitoba town where I lived throughout my childhood.  I attended school and church in the little town of Oakbank, but my family's home was in the countryside just a few minutes' drive from Pineridge Hollow, where Julianne + Tjaden's bespoke countryside wedding took place.  Pineridge Hollow is an event venue, restaurant, and boutique where a number of my friends and family have worked and even gotten married.  Every time I visit Manitoba and stay with relatives just down the road, we dine here and wander the grounds.  I return to my roots with orders of Ukrainian perogies (we Mennonites call them verenki), Manitoba farmer sausage, and bison burgers making my mouth water.  Pineridge Hollow is only about a 30-minute drive from Winnipeg, but it's a cozy neck of the woods that allows you to leave the busy city scene for a time.  It's an ideal spot for a country wedding in the Canadian prairies, especially one photographed by fine art film photographer Brittany Mahood of Winnipeg.
